Colour psychology is integral to my design process and I have been trained by leading colour psychologist Bernay Laity.
If you know someone who has had their personal colours read, you might be familiar with the colour personalities (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) which are named as such because they relate to the tonal families of colour that are seen in nature. If we observe what happens through the seasons we see clearly that ther colours at any one given time harmonise with each other and as the seasons change, so do the properties of each colour.
With each change in season there is also a distinct change of mood, which brings a different energy to our surroundings, and it is the relationship between these changes that allows me to use colour psychology to really enhance the garden design process.
When I meet a new client to take the brief I often ask them to put together a “mood board” which gives me a snapshot of their style preferences and clearly demonstrates in which direction I should be taking the design.
