A garden of dreams

I met Lynne and Andrew in the Autumn of 2009 just before they were about to embark on a house building project.  Mindful of the fact that it was likely to be affected by the build, and because the existing sloped site meant that they had nowhere in which they could sit out in the garden, they decided that it also made sense to think about the garden at the same time.

They had always dreamed of having an English cottage garden and wanted to create a garden to reflect this.  The architect had incorporated a raised terrace to deal with the steep slope immediately outside the back wall of the house and this would of course provide a wonderful viewing platform for the rest of the garden.

As well as some more functional elements such as a utility area and space for the children/grandchildren to play, Lynne had always longed for a stepped water rill.  They also had a long term plan to include a summer house at the end of the garden.

The front garden brief was quite simple, there was a requirement to park up to 6 cars (they have a large extended family and entertain a lot) but because it was the main view from the lounge window, they wanted it to look like a garden rather than a car park!
